Adam Opel AG (Opel) is a German automobile brand. Opel was founded in 1862 and have been producing vehicles since 1899. Opel became a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation (GM) in 1931 after GM acquired 80% in 1929. In 2017 GM sold Opel to the French PSA Group, and in 2021 the PSA Group became part of Stellantis.
Opel has been sold in the US in several phases. Under its own brand from 1958 to 1975 through Buick dealers. Later Opel was disguised as domestic GM brands in the model range of Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and Saturn.
Buick Regal from 2009 and forward was an Opel Insignia, Cadillac Catera from 1997 to 2001 was an Opel Omega, Saturn Astra was an Opel Astra in 2008-09, Saturn Aura was an Opel Vectra from 2008-09 and the second generation Saturn Vue an Opel Antara in the 2008-10 model years. The Chevrolet Captiva Sport fleet model from 2011 is an Opel Antara. Chevrolet Malibu from 2004 through 2008 used the platform from Opel Vectra. The Buick Cascada from 2016 is an Opel Cascada, sold in Europe since 2013.
