Toyota SUV History

Toyota 4Runner, a mid-size SUV, was introduced in 1984. The 4Runner was based on the Toyota pickup with a body on frame and were only available with two doors. The fifth generation 4Runner was introduced in 2009.

Toyota Land Cruiser has been in continuous production since 1951 and is Toyotas first utility vehicle. The car was named Toyota BJ from the introduction in 1951 and the name was changed to Land Cruiser in 1954. A name influenced by the Land Rover. The first Toyota Land Cruiser was based on the Bantam, the basis for the World War II (1940-45) Jeep produced by Ford and Willys during the war.

The FJ Cruiser has a design based on the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 produced between 1960 and 1984. The FJ Cruiser came in 2006.

Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV built in the US and is closely related to the Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The Sequoia was introduced in 2000, second generation in 2007.
